      Atlanta Restaurants

      Many premier restaurants and nationally known chefs call Atlanta home. The only drawback is, you can certainly spend some money. There is a lot of good food though, and we have tried to include some inexpensive eateries. Every type of food or ethnic flavor can be found here, so definitely experiment and enjoy! We have arranged the cuisine according to area to make it easier for you.

      DOWNTOWN-

      Chow Downtown- Big open windows and patio give you a panoramic view of the city. Chow's versatile selection includes seafood, southwestern, middle eastern and brunch.       Mick's- This restaurant is located in Underground Atlanta and is a reason in itself for visiting. Like much of the Underground, it is designed to look like an underground city street and gas street torches. The restaurant has seating available in both the underground and street levels, the street level facing the fountain plaza of Humbug square. The fare is American: burgers, chicken sandwiches, pasta, nachos and the po'boy (with andouille sausage, Cajun shrimp, jalapeno slaw and Tabasco mayonnaise on french bread.)       Pleasant Peasant- This little slice of Manhattan inhabits what was once a drugstore. New menu every day. Sumptuously prepared dishes such as steak, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian, all of which are served with salad, vegetables and bread at dinner. Lunch is equally as lavish.       Varsity- Self proclaimed, "World's largest drive-in restaurant" has been an Atlanta staple for almost 75 years. 150 feet of chrome diner stand and formica booths serve up Atlanta's premier fast food. Burgers, hot dogs, barbeque, chicken and egg salad sandwiches and even chili burgers. These are the generic names, everything on them menu has a crazy name which must be used when ordering.       Hsu's Gourmet Chinese- Casual dining featuring Cantonese and Hong Kong influenced food. Fresh fish and duck are specialties. Entrees: lunch $7-$13, dinner $12-$21 MC,V, AE, DISC, DC 192 Peachtree Center Ave. 404-659-2788

      Bertucci's Brick Oven Pizzeria- You just can't beat a gourmet brick oven pizza. Whatever you might want on a pizza they have here, even seafood. If you are overwhelmed try the quattro stagioni, a pizza with four quarters of your choice. Delivery and free parking available. Entrees: $4.50- $20.       Thelma's Kitchen- Inexpensive southern cooking, Atlanta cafeteria style. Good old staples like fried chicken, Brunswick stew, barbequed ribs, country fried steak, fried fish, vegetarian dishes and lots of good sides make up their simple yet pleasing menu.       Savannah Fish Company- A casual restaurant with all the seafood you would ever want to eat. Fresh market seafood prepared any way you would like it. Featuring an oyster bar and lounge. Entrees: lunch $8- $15, dinner $25-28. Valet parking. Peachtree and International Blvds. (in the Peachtree Plaza) 404-589-7456

      MIDTOWN

      Taste of New Orleans- Conscientious Cajun Creole cooking conscientiously concocted by chef and owner John Beck. Lots of good Cajun seafood, gumbo, duck and jambalaya in a casual setting with plenty of warm ambiance. Entrees: lunch $5.99-$7.99, dinner $8.95-$16.95 889 W.       Mary Mac's Tea Room- An Atlanta tradition since 1945. Former President Carter, among others, frequented this place. Entrees such as chicken pan pie with abundant amounts of giblet gravy, buttermilk battered fried fish and chicken, salad bar, fresh veggies, and corn bread with chicken and turnip brothed pot likker gravy make this place very special.       Florencia- Located in the Grand Hotel Atlanta, this restaurant offers magnificently sumptuous gourmet food in an elegant setting. Watch a roaring fire as you enjoy entrees such as poached Maine lobster cooked in wine sauce, phyllo crusted spinach pie and lamb with goat cheese. Entrees: dinner $21-$35 Free valet parking.       French Quarter Food Shop- After you finish a bona fide Cajun meal, meander on into the gift shop and get some genuine Louisiana groceries to go. Real Creole cooking by certified Louisiana chefs and owners Missy and Tony Privat. Think: Jambalaya, gumbo, remoulade, po'boy sanwiches, red beans & rice and you are picturing just a small portion of what they offer. Entrees: $5.95-$12.95 Free parking.       Pasta da Pulcinella- Cheap, delicious homemade pastas are the specialty here. A small menu offering sausage tortellinis, cheese stuffed raviolis and other hand-crafted dishes. Entrees: $4.95-$6.50 credit cards not accepted. Free parking. 1027 Peachtree St. 404-892-6195

      BUCKHEAD

      Atlanta Fish Market- It is worth going here just to see the 3 story, 50 ton fish sculpture. And the food's good, too. Elegant yet casual dining with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Specials and fresh fish charbroiled, steamed and fried every day. Regular dishes such as ginger soy spiced steamed fish, fresh salads and pastas make the menu.       Buckhead Diner- Just like the diners you see in the movies, all chromatic and neon on the outside. This place is hopping with locals and occasional celebrities like Elton John.       Houston's- This restaurant, one of a nationwide chain based in Atlanta, serves good food such as wood grilled burgers, ribs, chicken and salads. Entrees: $5.95-$16.95. MC, V, AE. Free parking. 2166 Peachtree Rd. 404-351-2442

      OK Café- Located in a stylish building with leather booths, a jukebox and 24 hour service. You can't go wrong with blue plate specials like pot roast, turkey and meat loaf. Good breakfast, too. Entrees $4.95-$9.50 Free parking. 1284 W. Paces Ferry Rd. 404-233-2888

      Kudzu Café- Fried green tomatoes and other southern fare, such as chicken and pork chops, make up the menu at this restaurant. It has been named one of the top ten restaurants by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. MC, V, DISC, AE, DC. Free parking. 3215 Peachtree Rd. 404-262-0661

      Bone's- This restaurant has the distinction of being the finest, most celebrated and most expensive steak house in Atlanta. Fresh seafood, including Maine lobster arriving daily by air, lamp, pork and aged beef can all be found here. More than 500 bottles of wine on premises. Free valet parking.       SWEET AUBURN

      Beautiful Restaurant- Southern soul food at it's finest. It isn't an especially beautiful place but the food is good. Homemade chicken, chops, meatloaf, beef tips fish, vegetables and sweet potato pie. Entrees: below $5. Free parking. Credit cards not accepted. 397 Auburn Ave.
