When in Chicago, many visitors prefer to stay on or around Magnificent Mile, North Michigan Avenue. Accommodations in this are mostly luxurious and expensive. The average traveler will find that the farther they go toward the city's outer limit, the less expensive the rates are. However, expect to spend close to a $100 per night, regardless. Here are a few of our favorite, less expensive hotels.

The Magnificent Mile

Days Inn Lakeshore- Located next to Veterans Hospital and Northwestern University, is an excellent value and location. Climate control rooms, restaurant, lounge and room service. Outdoor seasonal pool available as well as a sundeck on the 7th floor. 644 N. Lakeshore Dr
Intercontinental Hotel- All well-appointed rooms feature climate control, cable TV, minibar, hairdryer, desk and 2-line phone w/ voicemail. The hotel offers 24-hour room service, restaurant, bistro, lounge, bar, business center, lobby and full healthclub w/ excercise equipment, sauna and indoor pool. 505 N. Michigan Ave.
Best Western Inn of Chicago- All 358 soundproofed rooms have color tv, direct dial phone, individual climate control, with a double or queen or 2 double beds. the full service restaurant. 162 E. Ohio
Westin Hotel- Near Hancock Center and the water tower. Guest rooms are large and nicely decorated. This is a popular hotel with people who want a full-service hotel that doesn't scrimp on service.

Raphael Hotel- Located on East Delaware Place, just off North Michigan Avenue and the Magnificent Mile. All guest-rooms feature climate control, 2-line phone w/ voicemail, iron/ironing board, in-room safe, color TV and hairdryer. Clarian Execuitive Plaza- First Class Business Hotel located in a 39 story skyscraper at North Michigan avenue on East Wacker Dr. Traditional styled rooms have separate sitting area, private bath with large vanity, fitness room is complete with weights, aerobic equipment and a universal gym.

Downtown
Quality Inn Downtown- A tourist-class hotel located 1 block north of I-290 next to Greektown. All guest-rooms feature climate control and color cable TV. The hotel offers full-service plaza cafe, seasonal pool, sports bar, valet and laundry service.
Travel Lodge- Travelodge is a superior tourist class, motor hotel located downtown at Harrison and S. Michigan Ave, inside the loop. All guest rooms feature a/c, cable TV, and phone. Hotel offers complimentary in-room coffee and tea, coffee shop, restaurant/bar, and laundry facilities
Holiday Inn-Chicago City Center. 300 E. Ohio St. $175 double; Weekend and promotional rates. Parking $17.50 with in/out privileges.
