New Orleans is a city unlike any in America. Best known for its Carnival or Mardi Gras, celebration, the Big Easy is also a city rich in history and culture.
Situated near the mouth of the Mississippi, New Orleans has alternately profited from and been doused by, this great watery trade route servicing much of the continent. The pivotal location has attracted peoples of all types, including Spanish, French, Creoles, Africans and Southerners; all who have blended together to create the spiciest culture in North America.
When not focusing on the bacchanalia of Mardi Gras, New Orleans also claims such celebrities as fitness guru Richard Simmons; jazz great Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton, as well as writers Ann Rice, Kate Chopin, and Nelsen Algren.
