      Maison Dupuy- Two blocks from Bourbon Street, the Maison Dupuy is actually seven 19th-century town houses surrounding a courtyard, with a fountain in the center.       Monteleone Hotel- The oldest hotel in the French Quarter. 600 large luxurious rooms, 35 satisfying suites, 3 restaurants, 2 bars. Concierge, business services, and meeting rooms. The pool and exercise room are on the roof. The Carousel Bar in the lobby is a landmark. $$$

      New Orleans Marriott Hotel- Good view of the Quarter, the Central Business District, and the Mississippi River. Riverwalk, the convention center, and Canal Place mall, are a stones throw away.       Pontchartrain Hotel- Rita Hayworth stayed here on her honeymoon. 60 rooms, 42 suites, 2 restaurants, piano bar, concierge, parking (fee). Major credit cards accepted. $$$

      Grand Boutique Hotel- Writer Ann Rice fought Popeye's Fried Chicken creator Al Copeland, over the exterior neon deco facade, exclaiming, it clashed with Uptown New Orleans ambiance. She lost. Now this 44-suite hotel, with the Straya Restaurant downstairs, in-room refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, TV, and hair dryers; is a favorite for folks looking for a romantic getaway.       Columns Hotel.- Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this white-column 1883 Victorian-style hotel was the setting for the film Pretty Baby. Tuesdays and Thursdays there is live jazz in the lounge. Sunday jazz brunch. Outdoor dinning, two wood burning fireplaces in the lounge, phones in every room but no TV.       Oliver House Hotel- Built as a Creole town house in 1836, this casual guest house is popular with Europeans and touring troupes. No two rooms are alike, some have balconies and some kitchenettes with microwaves. All are furnished with antiques and fine linens.       CAMPING

      Bayou Segnette State park- 98 sites, water and electricity, tent pads, barbecue grills, picnic tables, 20 furnished cabins with screened porches over looking the bayou. Two comfort stations and a dump station, a boat launch, picnic area and telephones.
