EXTREME VACATION OF THE WEEK

Casablanca, Marrakesh, the Sahara. Pirates, palace intrigues and slave traders. See it all, as it should be seen, from the back of a camel. Trek from oasis to oasis, meet Berbers in remote villages, and be honored as a guest, not a captive, in this most exotic of destinations.

DIFFERENT, BUT NOT SO EXTREME VACATION OF THE WEEK

There are bike tours. And there are barge tours. Wouldn’t it be great to combine the two, combining the leisurely pace and comfort of a barge tour with the increased mobility and interaction of a bike trip? Well, these people have done just that and placed it in, among other places, France’s Loire Valley, home to fairytale castles and picturesque towns. The cost is $850 for 8 days, which seems to us a good price for such a unique experience.

eGOpinion OF THE WEEK

eGOpinions are reviews of hotels, restaurants and attractions by eGO Maniacs. Here’s a recent submission:

Attraction: Gatlinburg Skylift, Gatlinburg Tennessee

eGOmaniac Name: slwendt
How would you rate this Attraction? 1
Why?
When a group of us were on the ride in July, the ride broke down. We were trapped and had to be rescued by the fire dept and rescue workers. We were never told what was going on the whole time we were stuck. After we were rescued, 5 hours later in the hot sun, we had to request a refund of our money and they had the nerve to give us free unlimited family ride coupons good for 1 year--Like we would ever go on the ride again! And we were from out of state. Now we hear that on Christmas Eve the ride broke down again! Again people were trapped for 5 hours in the cold and snow.

How fun is this Attraction? 1
Why?
The people who run this ride were not compassionate or apologetic for the occurrence. The refund of money shouldn't have had to be requested and to give us free passes for 1 year when we live out of state is ridiculous.

FUN EVENTS

Custer’s Last Stand Reenactment

Hardin, Montana

June 25-27, 2004

Custer had his last stand, but spawned an everlasting fountain of books, articles and media coverage. This treatment may be the most exciting, a full scale reenactment. Told from an Indian perspective (they being the only surviving eyewitnesses), the show provides a living view of the historic event.

The Golden Chariot and Battle of the Lumecon

Mons, Belgium

June 6, 2004

Although the legend of Saint George is more commonly associated with England, it also provides the basis for this spectacular struggle. The dragon, known in these parts as the Lumecon, enters the town and begins to strike out at its terrified victims. Saint George comes to the rescue of the innocent bystanders and the battle is reenacted in full costume.

Pamplona Bull Run

Pamplona, Spain

July 6-14, 2004

The Pamplona Bull Running, part of Pamplona's spectacular Fiesta de San Fermín, is an event that people tell their grandchildren about. Considered by some to be the definitive rite of manhood, the Pamplona Bull Run sees hundreds of intrepid locals and visitors risking their lives to outpace galloping, frenzied bulls as they hurtle along an 800 yard stretch of Pamplona's streets towards the bullring.
