The most popular ways to see St. Augustine are aboard one of the many trolley tours, by foot or by scenic day cruises. It takes a solid two hours to see the entire city on foot, not taking into account stopping into the exhibits and buildings for tours. On foot is, in our opinion, the best way to see the old city. It is only about 13 square blocks, and most of the historical things are concentrated in a 8 square block area. When you arrive, stop by the visitor information center for a map, free brochures, literature, and discounts on tickets, tours, and museums. The center is open 8 am-5:30 pm and is located at 10 Castillo Dr. 904-461-0119
August and September are good times to visit because they are when St Augustine celebrates its creation with various festivals celebrating the city's rich cultural past.
Spanish architectural style, antiquity and ambiance are St. Augustine's main attractions. The city is just to the east of U.S. 1and just to the west of the Matanzas Bay. The following are some pointers and things we feel are important to see and do while visiting.
When you have had your fill of the city you should consider the beach. Anastasia Island is only 10 minutes to the south. Or head 10 minutes north to Vilano beach or the more secluded South Ponte Vedra Beach. The atmospheres range from small and family oriented with only a handful of hotels and year round family homes to busy, young beaches with lots of sunbathers, surfers, hotels and entertainment.
