      Whether it be a high quality Italian meal, or an inexpensive street vendor pretzel, Philadelphia has a variety of foods for everyone. The Center City offers some of the nicer options in seafood and overall dining experience. The bargain shopper might enjoy some of the city's famous cheesesteaks and hoagies. Stop by Chinatown for a bargain Chinese meal, or if your in the mood for Italian, swing by the southside. Philadelphia has a large variety of food courts and street vendors, some which serve up the city's best food. Don't overlook some of the older, run-down looking Italian restaurants, they're the jewels of the city.

      Toto-1407 Locust St. 215-546-2000. Semi-formal dress, authentic Italian. Located close to theaters and several museums in Center City $$$

      The Garden-1617 Spruce St. 215-546-4455. Semi-formal dress, and old Music academy. Covered with antiques, and a large flower garden. Dine indoors or outside for a more elegant experience. Located near Rittenhouse Square in Center City $$$

      Striped Bass-1500 Walnut St. 215-732-4444. Casual dress. Formerly known as the Fish Market, this is said to be the hottest seafood restaurant in the country in terms of ambiance and setting. Located in Center City $$$

      Ruth Chris's Steakhouse-260 South Broad St. 215-790-1515. Reservations recommended. Casual dress. Has gotten rave reviews for their large U.S. prime beef portions. 9 different types of potatoes as well as seafood and chicken selections. Located in Center City $$$

      Alyan's-603 S Fourth St. 215-922-3553. Small Middle Eastern restaurant off South St. Dinner from $7. Bring your own bottle.

      Circa-1518 Walnut St (545-6800). Average dinner entree is $10 at this stylish Center City restaurant decked out in marble, mirrors and chandeliers. Offers meats and seafood with innovative twists. Great Happy Hours on Thurs & Fri; techno music later at night.$$

      Delilah's-Reading Terminal Market, 12th and Spruce 215-574-0929. Superb soul food, scatty service. Nigerian stew with cornbread for under five bucks; beans and rice even less. $

      Jim's Steaks-400 South St 215-928-1911. Among the biggest and best cheesesteaks in the city. Eat at the counter in this black and white-tiled Art Deco diner that's been going since 1939, or in the small dining area upstairs. $

      Lee's Hoagies-44 S 17th St 215-564-1264. Downtown lunch place; a thousand variations on a single theme. The regular hoagies (from $3.95) are giant; the giants (from $7.50), truly gargantuan. $

      Montserrat-623 South St 215-627-4224. Wide variety of fresh healthy food, with a vegetarian emphasis, served inside or on a large deck overlooking the South Street parade. $$
