The Poe Museum provides a retreat into early 19th century Richmond where Edgar Allan Poe lived and worked. It occupies five buildings, the center of which is Richmond's oldest structure, the Old Stone House, built circa 1737. Behind the Old Stone House is the Enchanted Garden which displays flowers and other plants favored by Poe as well as a shrine built from the bricks of the building that housed the Southern Literary Messenger.
